Bob is working on the sump pump – needs a new motor and then some additional parts. He headed to town early so he could be back for the Satellite technician. We decided to start out by bird working the broke dogs – clouds building in NW and rain in the forecast. Highttoday in the 60's. Everybody sleep deprived today!!
Hills – Meadows - Birdwork
We took a group of dogs and drove the road to Triple Gates @ the ¾ mark we
found a spot that had a small pond in years past but had been dry the last 4-5
years. This year it's got water and very good cover to work dogs on birds.
We got out a bunch of huns and went to work.
• Erin – worked him on a release bird but it just didn't want to get pointed. He worked very nicely with a high head and patience but no such luck. I threw out another bird and he came in and pointed nicely. Only a level tail but solid and no flagging. Got to get him over this. Nice job overall.
• Lea – fast and snappy- she was ready. Pointed nicely but took some steps. Then a borderline STF – followed by shutting Lucas off. We corrected and ended on a positive note.
• Mariah – a bump – then a chase – then correction and finally a good piece of work. Stylish and mannerly.
• Midge – got her going but looping bad – that's my big chore with her.
We headed back to camp for more birds and dogs. Bob was working the technician. Not sure he's having any luck. We'll see
• Clifford – no collar or lead – just cut him loose. He's having a bout of limber tail. It appears his tail is starting to come up but he still was working hard and fast. A nice solid point with level tail as it droops to level. Very intense. I flushed and he was mannerly for flush and shot.
• Robin – Luke worked Robin and she had a NP near where we had an earlier bird land. It took a bit to get her to move on but when she did she looked good and hunted hard. Style just above level but good intensity and manners.
• Lily – fast and very snappy – with a nice stylish fine. Good manners on the shot but a borderline delayed chase and then no handle caused us to tap her and get her back on track. She responded well and ended very positive.
• Sorrel – very fast and hard to keep a handle on. A very big move caused me to talk to him a bit and he improved – had to drive the truck up some low hills to find him and kinda bend him around – his desire, drive and general health seems just fine and he's a burner. A NP at a previous spot and ended with a find on one we released. Good style and manners.
About 15 minutes before we were done it started to rain & rain – nice rain but we really don't need it for right now but we sure won't complain. Bob had the Internet up and running. Linda was heading to Basset to wash but decided to come back with all the hard rain. We had some naps & a review of the Internet was it was not letting us on. Bob finally got them straightened out and we had a connection.
We had Joy in camp for a possible breeding. She's prime today and we bred her to Clifford. Got a 20 min. tie – hopefully we have a nice litter. Combination of strong Brophy line bred to a Norwegian Import that has some Brophy background.
A good dinner while we watched some of the " Bourne " series and then a good nights sleep. We put Hank & Rio up and the dogs were rather quiet. Bob yelled at one point but until about 5:30 am they were good.
